1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us and automated data about your use of the Service.
1.1 Accounts and practice
When you create an account, we collect information such as your email address, username, optional display name and bio, and — if you use linked sign-in (such as Google or Apple) — the name your provider shares. We also collect:
- Typing performance metrics (WPM, accuracy)
- Keyboard telemetry data (character-level latency) used for on-device insights and server-validated scoring
- Basic integrity signals on saved tests (for example paste and focus events) to detect abuse
- Lesson progress and history
- Device and browser information (for example browser type and screen resolution)
We do not store full keystroke replay for every member speed test. When our automated trust checks identify a signed-in run that needs review, we may retain a limited typing replay for up to 30 days for internal abuse review only — not for employer hiring dashboards or public display.
1.2 Employer hiring accounts
If you use the employer hiring dashboard, we associate your signed-in account with an employer profile, invite-link credits, generated assessment links, and purchase records (plan or pack type, credits granted, and Stripe checkout or subscription identifiers).
1.3 Candidate assessment results
When someone completes a test through an employer's assessment link, we collect the test outcome (WPM and accuracy), an optional name the candidate enters, basic integrity signals used for abuse prevention (for example keystroke, paste, and focus counts), and — on paid employer plans — a keystroke-level typing replay of the completed run so the hiring team can review how the candidate typed. Candidates are not required to create a Type Faster account to take an assessment.
1.4 Payments and contact
Employer Hiring Vault subscriptions and one-time pack purchases are processed by Stripe on their checkout pages; we receive payment status and metadata needed to grant credits. If you use our contact form, we collect the fields you submit (such as name, email, and message) to respond to your inquiry.
1.5 Anonymous encouragement (Cheers)
When signed-in members send cheers on public bragging moments, verified score links, leaderboard rows, live event results, or similar surfaces, we log that action (including which account sent the cheer and which member received it, the surface type, and the UTC date) so we can enforce one cheer per visitor per item per day, prevent abuse, and operate the feature.
Other members never see who cheered. Recipients see aggregate counts only in the app, bell alerts, and optional weekly digest email — not a list of cheerers. Authorized Type Faster staff may access cheer records in internal admin tools for security, abuse investigation, and product improvement. We do not sell cheer data or publish who cheered whom to other users.
2. Anonymous Encouragement
Cheers are optional social feedback on typing wins. Counts are deduped cheer-days (one per signed-in visitor per item per UTC calendar day), not a public list of who liked you.
2.1 Your controls
- Pause new cheers — Account → Privacy → Anonymous encouragement (
allow_encouragement). When off, new cheers are blocked on all surfaces; totals you already received stay visible. - Public profile visibility — When your public profile is hidden, others cannot cheer your bragging moments, verified score links, or live event rows.
- Public leaderboard visibility — When you opt out of public leaderboard rows, others cannot cheer your main site leaderboard placements (separate from the encouragement toggle above).
- Weekly digest email — Optional under Account → Email notifications (default off). This only controls an aggregate Monday summary; it does not affect whether others can cheer you.
There is no member-facing setting to see who cheered you, hide past cheer-day totals, or turn cheers off for only one surface (for example leaderboard only). Bell alerts show aggregate unread counts only; opening Social → Profile insights marks them read.
If you delete your account, cheer records tied to your account are removed or anonymized as part of account deletion, subject to legal retention requirements.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Analyze typing patterns to help you improve
- Track your progress and personal records
- Operate employer hiring assessments (generate links, store results for the employer who created the link, and grant purchased invite credits)
- Process employer payments and prevent duplicate fulfillment
- Protect against fraudulent or automated usage (cheating)
- Respond to support and contact requests
- Communicate with you about your account
- Operate anonymous encouragement (deduplication, abuse prevention, and aggregate notifications)
4. Employer Hiring Assessments
Employers use Type Faster to send candidates a timed typing test via a secure link (Free trial links use a 1-minute test; paid plans (Hiring Vault or one-time packs) let you choose 1, 5, or 10 minutes per invite link.). Each assessment link can be used once; the employer who created the link can view the submitted result on their dashboard.
Employersare responsible for sending links only to people they are permitted to assess, for providing any notice their organization or local law requires before collecting candidate information, and for how they use results in hiring decisions. Type Faster provides the testing platform and stores results on the employer's behalf.
Candidatesshould only use a link sent by an organization they recognize. By starting the test, you understand your WPM, accuracy, any name you provide, and (when the employer uses a paid plan) a keystroke-level typing replay of your run will be shared with that employer. For questions about a specific employer's hiring process, contact that organization directly.
5. Data Storage
If you use the Service anonymously, some data is stored locally in your browser. If you create an account, or if you submit an employer assessment, relevant data is stored in our hosted database (Supabase). Assessment results are linked to the employer's account through the invite link that was used.
7. Third-Party Services
We use service providers that process data according to their own policies when you interact with them:
- Supabase: Database and authentication
- Stripe: Employer Hiring Vault subscriptions, one-time packs, and top-ups (checkout and webhooks)
- Resend: Delivering contact form and related transactional email
- Vercel: Hosting and Vercel Analytics
- Microsoft Clarity: Session analysis to improve the UI (when enabled)
- Google Analytics: Usage analytics (when enabled on the site)
Payment and analytics providers may collect information directly from your browser when their scripts or checkout pages load. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
8. Data Retention
We retain account and practice data while your account is active. Employer profiles, assessment links, submitted candidate results (including typing replay on paid plans), and Stripe purchase records are retained to operate the hiring feature and maintain billing records unless deletion is required by law or you request removal where applicable. Member speed-test typing replays selected for internal trust review are kept for up to 30 days, then deleted automatically.
You may request account deletion or ask about assessment data by contacting us through the form below. We will respond within a reasonable time and delete or anonymize data where we are not required to retain it.
9. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
10. Changes to Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
