Keyboard Debounce Test: Free Browser Check for Double Keydowns

Run a keyboard debounce test in your browser—tap one key and count rapid double keydowns. Honest limits: not firmware ms readout, not USB certification.

What this test actually records

The lab listens for keydown events the browser receives. Two keydowns within about twenty-five milliseconds on the same key—without you holding for OS repeat—counts as a possible bounce.

That pattern is evidence worth logging; it is not a certificate of debounce milliseconds burned into ROM.

End troubleshooting with a one-minute test on familiar prose; clean bounce samples should match calmer accuracy.

Mechanical boards can chatter when contacts oxidize—compare another key on the same row before replacing the whole deck.

Try the debounce & chatter check

Tap one key lightly and watch for rapid double keydowns the browser receives—bounce troubleshooting, not firmware debounce milliseconds from inside the switch.

How to run a fair session

Focus the checker, pick one letter, and tap lightly with full releases about ten to fifteen times. Do not hold keys down or you will trigger repeat and skew results.

The lab works as a keyboard debounce tester: it timestamps gaps between keydowns so you are not guessing from double letters in a text field alone.

Reset between boards or dongles so old events do not mix with new hardware.

Screenshot the event log when IT asks for proof; millisecond gaps are clearer than “it feels sticky.”

What to do after a clean or dirty result

Zero flags on a suspect key after a cable swap? You likely fixed transport noise. Flags on one key only? Consider switch service or replacement.

Finish with a one-minute typing test on Type Faster so accuracy data matches how you actually work.

Membrane double-press often tracks humidity; note weather when intermittent bounce appears.

Continue practicing

This cluster is about bounce and double letters. Run the chatter check on a suspect key, rule out OS repeat, then confirm chords on the rollover lab before you replace hardware.
